Revelation 2:2-4

I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.

From Background Notes [BN] for March 2nd & 3rd written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Though the turbulent decades of John’s time shook the churches to their foundations, the worshipping community discovered the presence and power of the risen Jesus.

But this Jesus who walks among the lampstands is not benign. As the seven letters of chapters 2-3 reveal, he challenges the churches to live up to their holy calling, and, at times, to recover their lost passion — their city heat — that makes their witness authentic and effective in the world.  [BN, 4]
