After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week,
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
From Background Notes [BN] for April 11th
& 12th written by Pastor Bob Brown:
Friday through Sunday,
encompassing parts of “three days,” with Jesus rising “on the third day.” Jesus
was not buried for 3 x 24 (=72) hours, but for selective portions of three
days.
He had to be buried
before sundown, Friday, to avoid Sabbath law violations. His resurrection took
place “on the third day,” that is, Sunday. Of special note is that Jesus was
buried for one complete Sabbath day (evening and morning), something which has
powerful symbolic meaning. His “rest” in the tomb marked the end of the old
creation, standing in readiness for the arrival of the new creation which began
“on the first day” of the week. [BN,1-2]
