John 1:1-2

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

The writer of John’s Gospel is the philosopher of the four Gospels.

He doesn’t give us all the familiar details of the Nativity: no shepherds, no angels, no magi, no baby in a manger. Instead, he is more interested in telling us what the story means, assuming that his audience knew what happened. [BN,1]
