Luke 24:25-26

He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”

From Background Notes [BN] for April 25th & 26th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Then there is the hope for Israel's redemption.

Like many in Israel, they found the Roman occupation a form of slavery and Israel's condition one of exile. Messiahs, prophets, and revolutionaries periodically arose, offering to "liberate" the people of God. At heart, that's what the word "redemption" means: "to set free" (Greek: lutrousthai, used in the passive form, implying someone else must be the agent of redemption). But the word also has nuances of the forgiveness of sins, and expressed the conviction of many in Jesus' time that Israel's sorry state resulted from her sins that needed to be washed away. But how?
