God is Faithful

What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision? Much in every way! First of all, they have been entrusted with the very words of God. What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God's faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true, and every man a liar. As it is written: "So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge." Romans 3:1-4

Background Notes written by Pastor Bob Brown
Pastor of Adult Education and Sunday Evening Worship

God is faithful (3:1-8), we are not (3:9-20), and only faith in the faithful God can solve the sin problem (3:21-31).

Yesterday's posting was a little harsh on the religious people and within the text specifically Paul was addressing the Jews. Even in today's text he speaks to them as they may have wondered if Paul had given up on them [BN, 6].

As our key verse for today states - is there an advantage to being a Jew? "Much in every way!" Jews have been entrusted with the very words of God! (3:1-2).

Human failure does not nullify God's faithfullness - He is faithful when we're not! "God is always reliable, faithful, and trustworthy even when human beings prove to be totally the opposite" [BN, 6].

Today's posting is a short one, meant to direct you to a deeper dive into the Background Notes for this week.

Pastor Bob Brown covers today's topic in much greater detail & clarity - take the time to download the notes and read them for youself.
