From Background Notes [BN] for Nov 15th &
16th written by Pastor Bob Brown:
Togetherness is fostered by fair
dealing between Christ followers, through practices that honor the truth and acknowledge
the dignity of others who are made in the image of God.
Further, Jesus points out, heaven pays
attention to the earthly community of Christians, and what we do “on earth”
either reflects favorably or badly on the character of God “in heaven.” Thus we
see the essential role of the Our Father as a prayer within worship,
since it reminds us of the important linkage between the will of God in heaven and
on earth. The language “bind on earth,” “bound in heaven,” “loose on earth,”
and “loosed in heaven” simply underscores that inevitable connection for
anybody watching how the church conducts itself. [BN,3]
